Welcome to DMJ's The Blueprint Post
Welcome to the Blueprint — a place to hear from us and from others. A place to learn about the process and each other. A place to share and grow and create.
A blueprint is a detailed representation of how an architect wants a building to look, but it’s also more than that. It’s a 2D representation of a client’s vision, one we get to bring to life. When building a home or remodeling an existing one, details and a clear way to communicate them are essential when it comes to bringing a customer’s dream to reality. When we make a blueprint, we take the layers of the building process, organize them, and then create the client’s envisioned dream. When all the facets of a blueprint come together, we get the completed project.
Like a blueprint, we wanted to create a place where people can sift through the broken-down and laid-out layers and discover the where, the how and the why of home building and remodeling and take this into their next project. We know the building process can be stressful and overwhelming, with a lot of moving parts and lots of things that can be hard to understand or make sense of, so we wanted to make that a little easier.
We wanted to create a place where we could bring the community together, where we could share stories of the company and the people, where we could share stories from the community and stories of what we do in our community. We wanted to craft a place that would inspire people who want to build a new home or remodel their current home, a place where people can find design and decorating creativity, a place where we can bring information and ideas for home owners to consider for their home project. We wanted to create a place for discovery, inspiration, and creativity to thrive, and where we can have some fun along the way. That led to the Blueprint.
We believe that design is more than a function of creativity. Good design captures the heart of each family and brings their unique characteristics to life, creating home. We are committed to seeing your dreams fulfilled, and part of the reason we created this blog is so that you can understand more about the process, and dream up some ideas of your own with less stress. We want to help you understand the different facets of the building world so that you can build your dream home without being overwhelmed along the way.
The Blueprint is a space for our entire community. It’s for homeowners, for people looking to build a new home, or remodel the one they already own. People who want to create a more functional home and space for their families — be that an update or an addition — or families who want to create a multigenerational home. People who value creativity and want a space to explore a new world of inspiration. For people who dream.
DMJ itself is the result of a dream — one shared by two friends and born on a fishing trip. “We already had a great relationship with each other,” said Co-founder and Managing Partner Monty Brock. “And we were both looking for something new, and looking to create something great. We pulled the common values, core values, morality, those kind of things that we shared, and then [began dreaming]. And then it kind of got cemented on a fishing trip. We were talking [about it] and we just kind of went, you know what, I think this is gonna work.”
“We wanted to build something of great communication and high integrity that honored our clients every step of the way.” said David Barkley, Co-founder and General Contractor. “We felt like there was a lack of true customer service, with lots of businesses without systems and processes in place that supported a company’s ability to serve their client’s needs. In our field there’s a ton of information that goes back and forth, and most businesses don’t truly track that information in order to serve their clients and they lose track of it, and the end result may be great but it’s not what the client necessarily wanted. So we felt like we could fine-tune the process so that we could support our clients’ needs better than anybody else in the industry.” Dave and Monty saw a gap in the construction world that they could bridge, and they created DMJ to do just that.
“I love the team we’ve built — the people who interact with our clients from day one through to completion. They all have a heart for the client that’s absolutely unparalleled in our industry. We’ve been blessed to be able to bring an amazing team of people to these projects for these clients.” David smiled.
Monty nodded in agreement. “Yeah, it all comes down to an experience that is actually fun rather than dread. And dread is something a lot of folks [have] in the construction world. They dread what they’re about to go through. They’re looking forward to the end result, but they dread the rest of the process… We want the whole process to actually be enjoyable. And so we’ve created ways throughout the project… to show that we’re really listening to them, listening to concerns while this is going on. And we want them to have fun.”
This blog exists to help with just that: a way to have fun while learning and while diving into the home building process. Throughout the course of the blog we’ll cover several different topics:
Our Community — what happens within it, what we’ve done and do for it, and upcoming events within it, among other things.
Custom Building — the what, the how, the where and the when, and much more. This aspect of building can be both confusing and stressful, and we want to make it easier every way we can.
Home Remodeling — the why, the what, the when, the who, and many other things. This can also be a stressful and confusing part of building, so we want to help you learn about it and hopefully understand it more.
Design and Decorating — why to do it, what to use, where to find items to use, and more. Our hope is to help you discover what you want to do with your home, and to help you do it with both less stress and less money.
We’ll also talk about a couple other things along the way, as they come.
You’ll meet our team and learn more about what we do and why we do it, exploring our values and our commitments as we journey together.
Take the Blueprint journey with us by following along with our blog and checking out
some of our other posts as they come out.
Let’s build your forever home together!
